Why you can’t live without ice cream
Everyone loves ice cream, sure you get the odd freaks who don’t but we’ll ignore them and pity them through mouthfuls of rich creamy chocolate ice cream, or vanilla, or a mixture of mango, litchi and orange. Somebody stop me, I’m salivating just thinking about it. Sure, ice cream contains sugar, it’s not perfect ok? But there are numerous benefits to ice cream and a number of reasons why we just can’t live without the good stuff.
Seriously, if there is one way to shut kids up and get them to do whatever you want, it’s to bribe them with ice cream.Kid caught his finger in the door and is screaming blue murder, offer them ice cream. Want them to eat their veggies for dinner, promise them ice cream. As a source of bribery, ice cream beats, lego, an Xbox and a motorised go-cart any day.
Break up food
At the risk of stereotyping women. Based on your average B-grade American romcom, what does a jilted woman who has just broken up with her boyfriend do to drown her sorrows? She drowns them in a delicious tub of her favourite ice cream. The fact that afterwards she might still feel dejected is neither here nor there, eating ice cream is about living in the moment, and the guilt-free time spent emptying that tub is priceless. No one ever drowned their sorrows in a beetroot salad.
It makes you smile
Ever seen anyone eat ice cream and not smile? Sure, but they were eating the wrong brand and nobody’s got time for bad ice cream. Believe it or not, but researchers have proven that ice cream makes you smile. They tracked the brain activity of people eating vanilla ice cream and noticed that as soon as the participants swallowed the ice cream, they saw an immediate effect on an area of the brain called the orbitofrontal cortex, a pleasure centre that activates when people enjoy themselves. Who needs Prozac when you have ice cream?
It may help you lose weight
Yes, ice creamcan be a part of your diet.Granted,Americans are not the best example to follow for losing weight, but a study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, found that women who added one daily serving of a full-fat dairy product, like ice cream, to their diet, gained less weight than those who didn’t. That doesn’t mean you can go out and buy a 10 litre bucket of your favourite cold stuff to lose weight, but half cup a day of vanilla or chocolate ice cream is just fine.
Cool down on a hot day
There is still no better way to cool down on a hot summer’s day than with ice cream. Eat it in a cone or on a waffle, drink it in a milkshake, or just devour straight out the tub, it work in a variety of ways – all of them good.
